Introduction

About 40% of Africa’s population live in Cities. Some cities like Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, are very wealthy with wide modern expressways, big impressive shiny tower-blocks, lots of modern apartments and supermarkets!

But unlike Europe where all cities are like this; African cities are mostly overpopulated, impoverished, underdeveloped and full of poverty and unemployment. Most people live in small, basic low cost housing with poor water supply and limited sanitation. Everyone tries to make a living, selling newspapers, fruit, or second hand clothes by the side of the roads... doing whatever they can to try and get some money to buy food and pay the rent.

Nigeria is maybe more fortunate than many other African countries, it has a good education system funded by oil revenues that the country has in abundance. There are many wealthy Nigerians who drive big cars and have large houses. But they live side by side with their impoverished neighbours and problems like children living rough on the streets, high rates of HIV/AIDS.

It is into these conditions that we are seeking to send a team to reach out to those physically & spiritually impoverished people who live in Nigeria’s cities.
