Introduction

Sport is one of the few activities that brings people together no matter where they are on the globe. It opens doors and provides opportunities to share Jesus with people who have never heard of him before.

Sports In Nigeria

The national sport of Nigeria is of course football. You see it being played absolutely everywhere; driving along a road you come across a clearing and there'll be a crowd of boys playing some serious football! In poor, crowded shanty towns on the edge of big Nigerian cities, space will be found to play a match, even if it is on the side of a hill. It is in these areas that sports ministry teams can play a vital role by coming and organising coaching sessions with local children and playing matches against local teams; this always draws a crowd.

These sporting interactions lead to opportunities to share about Jesus, by what is said to people, but also through sportsmanship on the pitch and forming friendships with those who come along.

Sports outreach teams are able to get into areas that other missionaries can't; sport opens doors for the gospel to enter through.
