Mission Africa Teams 2010

ABOUT MISSION AFRICA

Mission Africa was founded 120 years ago and was formerly known as the Qua Iboe Fellowship. Historically most of our work has been in South East Nigeria, but now we are also working in Northern Nigeria, Chad and Burkina Faso. Church Planting and Evangelism remain very important areas of focus for the mission, along with Theological Education and Medical work. Africa has so many needs and we especially want to help those who are oppressed and marginalised. We help people suffering with HIV/AIDS, street kids and women who are exploited. As an interdenominational evangelical mission, we want to share the love of Jesus with the people of Africa; reaching the unreached; loving the unloved and discipling new believers. Why Participate on a STEP team?

Step teams have an enormous impact upon peoples' lives. They encourage the church and its ministries in Africa, they boost the work of the projects the teams help, people experience the love of God for perhaps the first time through the work the team does, and people become Christians as a result.

Perhaps the biggest impact is upon the lives of those who participate on the teams, everyone on the teams comes home positively affected by what they have seen and done. Most return home having experienced God in a new way, after they witnessed first hand how He is working in Africa. Many are challenged to consider further involvement in mission work, either short or long term. Everyone who has been to Africa remembers their experience and is able to pray with knowledge about the country they visit.

Step teams are a fantastic opportunity to share your gifts with others, to learn more about God and to grow in your faith. It is a chance to reach out and share the love of God in a practical way.

Orientation

Before each team goes to Africa they will have an orientation weekend, which will brief them on cultural awareness, as well as how to work and live together as a team. Some training will be given specific to the work they will do. This will also be a good opportunity for the team to get to know each other before going to Africa. The cost of orientation is included in the cost of the Step Team, and will be held on 11th - 13th June 2010 in Belfast. Orientation is compulsory!

Debrief

After your time In Nigeria you will have had many experiences and God will have been challenging you. lt is necessary to talk through these experiences with others. There will be a debriefing day in October 2010, this will also be an opportunity to meet up again with your team to share your reactions to your experiences in Africa.

Team members have to be committed Christians over the age of 18 on July 1st 2010. There are no upper age limits but applicants have to be in a good state of health. No overseas experience or missionary training necessary.
